CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team will hit the road on Tuesday, Sept. 10 when it travels to Bowling Green, Ky., to take on the No. 16 Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers in its first non-tournament match of the season. The match will be played at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT.

  1. The Bearcats hold an impressive 17-4 record against the Hilltoppers for a .810 winning percentage. The series began in 1989 when Cincinnati picked up a 3-1 victory in Bowling Green, Ky. The Tops took the match 3-1 last season at Fifth Third Arena, but UC had won the 10 meetings prior, including a 3-2 win in the NCAA tournament on December 5, 2008.
  2. Junior Jamie Netisingha (Westmont, Ill./Hinsdale Central) currently ranks fifth in the American Athletic Conference with 4.16 digs per set. Junior Madi Lang (Commerce Township, Mich./Florida Atlantic) and senior Me’Ashah Nicholson (Shiloh, Ill./Belleville Althoff) also rank among the conference leaders. Lang sits in seventh with 6.87 assists per set while Nicholson is seventh with 1.00 block per set.
  3. The Bearcats faces their first ranked opponent of the season at the Bobcat Invitational when they squared off against No. 24 North Carolina. The Tar Heels won the contest 3-0. UC will again meet a ranked foe when they head to Bowling Green, Ky., to face No. 21 Western Kentucky on Tuesday night. Since the beginning of the 2012 season, Cincinnati has faced 12 ranked opponents and has three upcoming matches against teams either ranked or receiving votes in the current AVCA poll.
  4. Nicholson was named a member of the UC Invitational All-Tournament team on Aug. 31 after recording 20 kills, six digs and 10 blocks in three matches. Sophomore Morgan Allred (Carrolton, Texas/Hebron) was became a member of the Bobcat Invitational All-Tournament team on Sept. 7. She led Cincinnati at the tournament with 17 kills for a 1.78 kills/set ratio. She also added 22 digs, two blocks one assist and one ace.
  5. All seven freshmen have played a significant role on the team through two weekends of the season. Combined, the freshman class has recorded 89 kills (48.4% of the team’s total), 45 assists (27.3%), 117 digs (40.9%) and 23 blocks (65.7%). Ciara Hill (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) leads the freshmen with 31 kills while Shelby Green (Dripping Springs, Texas/Dripping Springs) has recorded 58 digs.
