Bearcats Head to Illinois for Tough Big 10/BIG EAST Challenge

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati volleyball team will face two tough, ranked teams this weekend at the Big 10/BIG EAST Challenge in Champaign, Ill.

The Bearcats will play against No. 3 Illinois Friday night at 8:00 p.m. ET and No. 14 Purdue Saturday night at 5:30 p.m. ET. The team is lead so far by lone senior Missy Harpenau, who is averaging 3.36 kills per set and 0.33 aces per set. Junior Jordanne Scott is consistently a force to be reckoned with as she averages 0.33 aces per set as well and 2.77 kills per set. Freshman Caylin continues to run a solid offense with 10.67 assists per set. Junior Becca Refenes leads the defense at the net with 1.13 blocks per set.

Junior Emily Hayden and sophomore Emily MacIntyre put up impressive numbers last weekend in Hawai'i. Hayden leads the team now with a .301 hitting percentage after hitting almost .500 last weekend. MacIntyre led the tournament with over 5 digs per set and averages a team-leading 3.5 per set. Both were honored for thier performances with an All-Tournament awards.

The Bearcats are receiving votes in the AVCA top 25, but the team will have to work extremely hard to beat the two teams this weekend. Illinois is currently ranked No. 3 in the AVCA poll and are 9-0 after posting tournament championships at BYU, Middle Tennessee State, and their own tournament.

No. 14 Purdue is also undefeated so far after posting wins most recently over Jacksonville State, Western Carolina and Ball State. The Boilmakers have made quick work of their opponents so far, having only lost two total sets.
