CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team is preparing to host two conference foes this weekend when UCF and USF come to Fifth Third Arena. The Bearcats will take on the Knights of UCF at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10 and then face the Bulls of USF at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13.

Both matches will be part of UC’s annual social media weekend when fans can print off a coupon, or show it at the door, for one dollar tickets. You can find the coupon at http://www.gobearcats.com/sports/m-soccer/spec-rel/100713aaa.html.

  1. The Bearcats have played the Knights of UCF three prior times in program history with a 1-2 record. The first match between the two teams came back in 1978 when matches were played to two sets and the Knights won 2-0. UC beat UCF 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-23) last season as part of the Time Warner Texas Invitational on Sept. 14. Jordanne Scott had 15 kills and five digs, while then-sophomore Me’Ashah Nicholson added three kills. The other UCF series win was a NCAA Tournament match in 2003 that the Bulls won 3-2.
  2. Versus USF, Cincinnati has compiled a 13-10 record, including 10 of the last 11 meetings. The Bulls won the matchup in 2012 by a score of 3-2, but the Bearcats had won 10-straight prior to that. Two of the UC wins during the run were BIG EAST Tournament matches.
  3. Three Bearcats are currently ranked among the American top-10 in several categories for conference-only matches. Freshman Breanna Barksdale leads the charge in two categories, ranking second with 1.67 blocks/set and seventh with a .303 hitting percentage. Freshman Ciara Hill ranks sixth with 3.44 kills/set and freshman Kristin Conor ranks seventh with 8.62 assists/set.
  4. The UCF Knights sit in second place in the conference standings after a perfect 3-0 start in American play and a 12-4 record overall. The Knights were picked to finished second in the preseason coaches’ poll with two first-place votes.
  5. USF is currently sixth in the American after going 2-1 to open conference action and producing an 8-9 overall record. The Bulls were picked fifth in the coaches’ preseason poll.
