Why would the University of Cincinnati want to take away the experience of playing home games in our on campus facility, Nippert Stadium? While facing cuts in state funding and increased operating expenses playing select games at Paul Brown stadium provides the University of Cincinnati increased revenue opportunities, while for many, elevating the quality of our overall fan experience. Many of the challenges of Nippert Stadium are met with a state of the art facility that includes chair back seating, Club Seat and luxury suite opportunities, additional lower bowl seating, spacious concourses, enhanced tailgating opportunities, additional amenities and restrooms. Playing games in this state of the art facility will provide tremendous recruiting opportunities allowing us to showcase our program on a grander scale. As all of our loyal supporters understand, it is our goal to continually strive for BIG EAST Championships in each of our 18 athletics programs. Maintaining status quo is not an option for our players, coaches, fans and the Cincinnati community. It is through these unique revenue opportunities that the University of Cincinnati will be most appropriately positioned for long term success in the BIG EAST Conference. The decision is not always easy and compromises are made in the process, but it is a necessary move that will allow us to compete at the highest levels in all of our athletics programs.
As we look at the 2011 home football schedule and games into the future, there are certain home game opportunities that can position us to maximize Paul Brown Stadium for increased revenue generation. We will continue to play the majority of our home schedule at Nippert Stadium while balancing unique opportunities to move select games to Paul Brown Stadium.
The revenue equation is a complicated one, but scheduling appropriate games at Paul Brown Stadium comes with the university's ability for significant revenue increases that would be above and beyond revenue that could ever be generated in a sold out Nippert Stadium. Additional seating, Club Seat/amenities, luxury suites and group opportunities are all important factors in making designated games at Paul Brown Stadium financially attractive. I have been a long time season ticket holder and like many others we have provided feedback that has allowed us to be in seats that we desire. I don't want to buy season tickets if I have no say-so in where I can sit for these two games. What is being offered to accommodate us?
Beginning April 1st all 2011 football season ticket holders will have the ability to opt into a seat selection process for both the Louisville and West Virginia games being played at Paul Brown Stadium. Each patron who opts into this process will be given a designated day and time in which they will be contacted by our new Customer Service Center allowing each individual to personally select open seats for these games.
All seat allocations will be based upon UCATS annual giving tiers first, and then priority points within each tier. Increasing your giving level to the next tier (above the required minimum for your season tickets) is the best way to make an immediate impact on your Paul Brown ticket allocation. A comprehensive collection of information regarding the seat allocation process, timetables and stadium overview will be available at UCATS.net. If a patron chooses to not participate in the seat selection process his or her seats will be allocated (in the best available seats) based upon the UCATS annual giving tier and priority points in the appropriate priority order within all seat selection participants. Additionally, we will be hosting two Open House events at Paul Brown Stadium which will allow season ticket holders and guests the opportunity to view the Club Seat amenities and overall seating options so you may be educated and informed on which areas of Paul Brown Stadium may be best for you. The Open House events are slated for April 25th and 26th and are free to attend. We encourage you to attend these sessions to get a better understanding of options for these games. Additional details surrounding these events will be communicated and will be made available at UCATS.net. During the Open House events the Paul Brown Stadium club seats will be showcased and patrons will have the ability to experience this unique area which will be an upgrade that will be offered for both games played at the stadium. Upgrades to club seats will be offered in May and will also be a part of the overall seat selection process. Why would you move Homecoming off campus where students, alumni and fans are disconnected from the very campus that is rationale for coming back?
The department of Athletics staff continues to work hand in hand with our partners at the UC Alumni Association to create opportunities for involvement from both current students and UC alumnae in the many events surrounding Homecoming.
Homecoming at the University of Cincinnati has always been designed to create activities and events that will engage both current and former students of the University of Cincinnati. We are excited about the opportunities that the Louisville game at Paul Brown Stadium can provide in the form of new traditions and bringing people back to the City of Cincinnati. This game at Paul Brown stadium will provide a great opportunity for alumni in the tri-state area to enjoy a first class facility with exciting group and tailgating opportunities. The home football game is one aspect of a series of events and activities that will be offered to showcase the growth and advancement of a football program for which both current students and alumni can be proud. As usual, there will be ongoing events, social gatherings, activities and functions on campus throughout Homecoming Week in 2011. Stay tuned for additional information regarding all Homecoming activities through the UC Alumni Association. Why move games to a larger stadium that will only invite more Louisville and WVU fans to attend? Our fan base is not large enough to fill the necessary seats at PBS.
Over the past five years we have made significant growth in both UCATS memberships and football season tickets sold. When joining the BIG EAST Conference in 2006 UC ranked a distant last with 1,962 UCATS memberships, but we have grown in each subsequent year and we now proudly boast 5,260 memberships and approximately 22,000 football season tickets. While we are proud of this growth, our future athletic success will be directly proportional to our ability to increase our base of support, adding investors to our program.
Select games at Paul Brown Stadium will provide tremendous opportunities for groups, corporate entities and individuals that do not attend games at Nippert Stadium. With limited capacity and limited group and ticket opportunities for Nippert Stadium we will have the ability to leverage a first class facility for many new patrons and ticket holders that may not normally be enticed to games at Nippert Stadium.
