Sr. Associate AD/Chief Financial Officer
University of Richmond
Omar Banks is in his second year as Senior Associate AD/Chief Financial Officer for the University of Cincinnati, having joined the department in 2009.
He currently oversees a $51 million budget and provides strategic advisement to the Athletic Director on matters including procurement, capital project financing, revenue agreements, personnel planning, departmental policies and procedures, and scholarship support for 19 sport programs. Banks also serves as oversight for Men's Soccer and Athletic Equipment Operations, and manages personnel operations for over 300 coaches, staff members, graduate assistants and volunteers.
As a reflection of the respect earned from his colleages in the athletic industry and his peers, Banks was elected 3rd Vice President of the College Athletic Business Management Association (CABMA) in June of 2013. He will serve in that capacity for one year before becoming 2nd Vice President in 2014-15, 1st Vice President in 2015-16, and eventually becoming President of the organization in 2016.
A former defensive back for the University of Richmond football team, Banks began his collegiate athletics career in 1998 at North Carolina State, as a media intern within the Sports Information Department. Following successful stints as a Project Manager and Data Consultant for IBM and Finance Manager for Fidelity Investments, he returned to Athletics in 2005 as Ticket Manager and Senior Fiscal Administrator for Hampton University in Virginia. In 2007, he moved on to Virginia Commonwealth, where he was tasked with supervising Ticket Operations, Event Management and staffing, and all accounts receivable for the athletic department.
Banks earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Richmond before graduating cum laude from North Carolina Central University with an MBA and graduating summa cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Master of Science in Sports Leadership.
