Bearcats Conclude Miami Invitational|

OXFORD, Ohio -The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving teams wrapped-up the Miami Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 7, highlighted by Joe Scherpenberg recording a victory in the 500 freestyle.
Both the men and women, swimming lighter in numbers due to the upcoming final exams at UC, finished fifth at the meet. The host RedHawks won on the women's side while the nation's number-one ranked Division III team, Denison, won on the men's side.
Fedoreeva was the first women's individual to reach an A-Final. She swam a 100 butterfly preliminary time of 55.78 before posting a finals time of 56.20 to place third.
Pikhartova earned a fourth-place finish in the 200 breaststroke. She swam the prelim in 2:19.08 before posting a time of 2:16.41 in the finals.
Wheeler posted a third-place finish in the 200 individual medley. Her morning swim of 2:04.51 was the second quickest of the morning and was followed by a finals swim of 2:04.90.
Men's action began with Dean Waite, Daniel Gilbertson, Rob Walsh and Michael Palleros posting a sixth-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:33.49.
Scherpenberg then had the highlight of the weekend for the Bearcats in the 500 free. He had the fast time in the morning prelim, touching the wall in 4:31.83. The senior then went even quicker in the final, finishing in 4:29.35 for the victory.
Walsh earned a third-place finish in the 100 fly. He posted a prelim time of 49.35, followed by a finals time of 49.58.
The 100 freestyle saw both Scherpenberg and Walsh qualify for the finals with prelim times of 46.23 and 45.93, respectively. Scherpenberg placed sixth in the finals swim with a mark of 45.83, while Walsh was ninth in 46.67.
The Bearcats capped the weekend with the 400 freestyle relay team of Walsh, Tommy Easley, Waite and Scherpenberg placing second with a time of 3:01.37.
The meet is the final competition of 2013 for both the men's and women's sides. The Bearcats will be back in Oxford, Ohio, when they return to action on Thursday, Jan. 9, for a dual meet with the RedHawks.
