CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's track and field team will be represented by Josh Dangel and Terrence Somerville at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. June 5-8. The four-day meet will take place at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field, which has hosted 10 NCAA Outdoor Championships since 1962.
Both Dangel and Somerville entered this year's NCAA competition as BIG EAST outdoor track and field champions. Dangel vaulted a personal best 17'6 5/8" (5.35 meters), just .02 centimeters off the meet record, to take the 2013 conference title. Somerville ran away with the BIG EAST 110-meter hurdles title in school-record time of 13.41, clipping the previous school record by .01 seconds. In the NCAA East Prelims race on May 24, Somerville broke his own record, clocking a 13.37 to advance to the quarterfinals.
Somerville won his quarterfinals heat on May 25, running a 13.49 to advance and continue his run to the NCAA Outdoor title, while Dangel placed eighth in the men's pole vault on May 23 with a mark of 17'2.75" during the NCAA East Prelims to advance to the finals in Eugene.
Dangel begins the pole vault finals competition June 5 at 7 p.m. ET, while Somerville races in the semifinals June 6 at 8:20 p.m. ET. Should he advance, Somerville will battle for the title on June 8 at 6:16 p.m. ET.
