CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati senior guard Sean Kilpatrick has been named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll the league announced on Monday.
A preseason American First Team selection by the league's coaches, Kilpatrick scored a team-high 22 points to go with seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in the Bearcats' 74-61 season-opening win over North Carolina Central on Friday at Fifth Third Arena. He was 6 of 13 from the field with a pair of three-pointers and made 8 of 9 free throws.
Kilpatrick's effort marked the 19th time in his career he has scored 20 or more points and the 78th time he reached double figures in points. He also moved past Dwight Jones (1,451 points from 1980-83) into 15th place on UC's career scoring list with 1,466 points. He needs 534 more points this season to become only the second player in school history to reach 2,000 career points (Oscar Robertson - 2,973 points from 1958-1960).
Kilpatrick tied for first among BIG EAST Conference players last season for most league honors with seven (two player of the week awards and five honor roll selection).
Kilpatrick and the Bearcats play a pair of home games this week at Fifth Third Arena. UC takes on NC State as part of ESPN's College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon on Tuesday at 5 p.m. ET (ESPN/700 WLW). The Bearcats also welcome Appalachian State on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET (FOX Sports Ohio/WEBN 102.7 FM).
