POSTGAME NOTES
Rutgers 10, Cincinnati 3
Nov. 17, 2012 - Nippert Stadium - Cincinnati, Ohio
Attendance: 34,526

TEAM NOTES
•    Cincinnati Game Captains: Brendon Kay, Travis Kelce, Camerron Cheatham and Dan Giordano. Jordan Luallen carried the City of Cincinnati flag onto the field as the team entered the field prior to kickoff.
•    Syracuse Game Captains: Tim Wright, Khaseem Greene and Mason Robinson.
•    Rutgers won the toss and elected to defer. Cincinnati defends the south goal.
•    Rutgers leads the all-time series 9-8-1. The Scarlet Knights have won the last two meetings including last season’s 20-3 decision in Piscataway, N.J. Cincinnati leads the series 6-2-1 in the Queen City.
•    Cincinnati’s loss to Rutgers snaps the Bearcats’ nine-game home win streak at Nippert Stadium.
•    The 10 points allowed in the loss are the fewest points surrendered in a UC loss during the Butch Jones era (last was 20-3 loss at Rutgers [11/19/11]) and the fewest for the Bearcats since they joined the BIG EAST prior to the 2005 season (last was 20-3 loss at Rutgers [11/19/11]).
•    The last time UC allowed as few as 10 points in a game and lost was a 10-7 home setback to Rutgers on Sept. 5, 1987.
•    UC recorded two interceptions against Rutgers, marking the third time this season the Bearcats have registered multiple interceptions in a game.  The Bearcats recorded two interceptions in the Rutgers red zone in the first half. Of UC’s nine interceptions entering today, only two had come in the red zone.
•    UC managed a season-low 90 rushing yards against Rutgers, the lowest since accumulating 67 against the Scarlet Knights last season (11/9/11). The Bearcats also suffered season lows for total offense (341; lowest since 301 vs. Vanderbilt [12/31/11]) and first downs (16; lowest since 11 at Rutgers [11/9/11]).
•    The 179 rushing yards compiled by Rutgers’ running back Savon Huggins are the most allowed to a UC opponent this season.
•    NEXT UC GAME: The Bearcats close out their home schedule when they play host to USF on Friday, Nov. 23. The contest starts at 7 p.m. and will be televised by ESPN.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES
•   Travis Kelce had a career-high five receptions for 50 yards against Rutgers. For the season, Kelce has 28 receptions for 472 yards and four TDs. He moves within 10 yards of Brent Celek (481 receiving yards in 2006) for second most by a Bearcat tight end in school history.
•   Quarterback Brendon Kay set career marks for passing yards (251), pass completions (17) and pass attempts (31) against Rutgers.
•   Running back George Winn passed the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season, gaining 38 yards on 11 carries against Rutgers. He has 1,018 on the season.
•   Greg Blair led the Bearcats defense with 12 total tackles, including one tackle for loss. He leads the UC defense with 101 stops this season.
•   Nick Temple tied his career high for tackles with eight. He also had eight stops against Vanderbilt last season (12/31/11). He also had one pass breakup against the Scarlet Knights.
•   Camerron Cheatham thwarted Rutgers’ first drive of the game when he intercepted a pass from RU quarterback Gary Nova at the UC 9-yard line. It marked Cheatham’s third interception of the season and seventh of his career. Cheatham finished with seven tackles against Rutgers.
•   Safety Dominique Battle stopped a Rutgers scoring effort just before halftime when he picked off a Nova pass in the end zone with 25 seconds left in the second quarter.
•   Jordan Stepp blocked a 22-yard field goal attempt by Rutgers’ Nick Borgese at 1:27 in the third quarter. It marks the second time in three weeks a Bearcat has blocked an opponent’s field goal attempt. Brandon Mills blocked a 25-yard attempt against Syracuse on Nov. 3.
•   Tight end Blake Annen made his first collegiate start for the Bearcats.

SCORING DRIVES
•    Rutgers grabbed a 7-0 lead at 6:30 left in the second quarter when quarterback Gary Nova connected with wide receiver Mark Harrison on a 71-yard touchdown strike. Nick Borgese made the point after attempt. The 71-yard completion was the longest reception by a UC opponent this season. The scoring drive covered five plays and 97 yards in 2:17.
•    Rutgers pushed its lead to 10-0 when Nick Borgese converted a 42-yard field goal. The scoring drive was 12 plays and 62 yards in 6:49.
•    Tony Miliano made a 36-yard field goal with 11 seconds remaining in the game to pull UC within 10-3. The scoring drive was nine plays and 58 yards in 1:16.
