As a team the Bearcats ended the 15-team tournament in fifth place at 290-299-307=896. It marks UC’s second Top 5 finish of the spring and the seventh in nine tournaments since the start of the fall season. Tournament host Memphis, ranked 40th in the nation according to GolfStat, won the team title at 10-over 289-287-298=874.
O’Toole started the day 3-over after the first three holes before settling down to posting par scores on the next eight holes. He was 2-under on the back nine with birdies on Nos. 12, 16 and 17 before a double bogey on No. 18 resulted in his 3-over 75 round. It marks O’Toole’s third Top 30 finish in four spring tournaments this season.
Louisiana Lafayette’s Haraldur Magnus took medalist honors in the 84-player field with a 1-under 75-70-70=215.
UC junior Baxter Reeves (Montgomery, Ala./Central Alabama CC) earned his best finish of the spring season, tying for 24th place at 9-over 73-75-77=225. Junior Jared Howard tied for 29th place, two strokes behind Reeves, at 11-over 72-76-79=227. Freshman Jared O’Kelley (Canton, Ga./Creekview High School) tied for 32nd place at 12-over 72-78-78=228. Sophomore Emerson Newsome (Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek High School) tied for 44th place at 80-75-77=232.
"Today was a tough day," UC head caoch Doug Martin said. "Colonial is a very tough golf course and it reared it's ugly teeth. We didn't play well today from the middle of the round on. Holes 10-15 played very hard. Overall though, any time you finish in the top 5 you can't be too disappointed."
Cincinnati returns to action April 7-8 at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship at the Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss.
