CINCINNATI –The University of Cincinnati men’s soccer team wrapped up its spring season with an alumni weekend, complete with golf outing, silent auction and alumni soccer game. The team saw about 50-60 people participate throughout the weekend’s events, including many soccer alumni who came back into town to celebrate with the Bearcats.
The golf outing took place on the morning of Sat., April 13 at the Twin Oaks Country Club in Covington, Ky. The foursome of Issiah Davis, Eian Clinkscale, Joe Leister and UC Soccer alumnus Rob Burlew took the top prize on the course.
The golf outing was followed by a silent auction including items signed by Cincinnati Reds players, Reds tickets, a signed jersey from the 2011 Scottish Premier League champions Glasgow Rangers and a signed football helmet from UC football head coach Tommy Tuberville.
The weekend came to a close with the annual alumni soccer game, pitting current UC players against previous UC standouts. The current Bearcats won the game 5-2 with goals from sophomore Matt Remaley (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista), freshman Evan Talkers (Villa Hilla, Ky./Covington Catholic), freshman John Manga (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay), sophomore Will Diebold (Coppell, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) and redshirt junior Christian Myton (Vandalia, Ohio/Charminade Julienne). Myton’s goal was scored at the final horn to give the Bearcats the 5-2 win.
“Overall iswas a great weekend” said head coach Hylton Dayes. “The weather was good for all events and it was great to have the alumni back on campus. The golf and soccer were fun and it was a great end to the spring season for our team.”
The Bearcats will head into summer break until they report back to campus in August when the team will begin training camp to prepare for the fall 2013 season.
