Redshirt freshman Natalie Smith was named the American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Smith tallied eight saves in a 2-0-0 weekend for the Bearcats (4-6-0) and chalked up her first two career shutouts. The Cincinnati native had two saves in the team’s 1-0 win over Cornell on Friday night then followed that performance up with a six save afternoon at Providence to win 3-0.
The 5-6 goalkeeper has split time in net with junior Kristina Utley, who is the last UC player to be earn Goalkeeper of the Week honors, this fall after redshirting last season. Smith is 3-3-0 in between the pipes this fall for Cincinnati.
Smith and the Bearcats return home this coming weekend after playing eight of their first 10 games on the road. They host Rutgers on Friday night for their AAC opener and then welcome Memphis on Sunday afternoon.
