Women's Tennis Rolls Through Puerto Rico With Three Wins|

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team collected three wins in three matches in convincing fashion when they traveled to San Juan, Puerto Rico over spring break.
UC defeated the University of Puerto Rico, SUNY Geneseo, and Colgate. The Bearcats did not lose a single point as they won all three matches 7-0.
Cincinnati was able to sweep the doubles point against the University of Puerto Rico when sophomore Kelly Poggensee-Wei (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake North) and senior Caitlin O'Gara (Springboro, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) won 8-0, senior Ashleigh Witte (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) and freshman Lauren Bellinger (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) took down their opponent 8-0, and freshman Katya Bure (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) and senior Carly Wilson (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Beechwood) were victorious over Tirado and Lee 8-1.
The Bearcats also took all six points in singles play, allowing Witte to became the first UC player to get double digit wins on the season. Witte, O'Gara, Bure, Bellinger, and sophomore Hannah Wille (St. Louis, Mo,/Parkway Central) all picked up victories by a large margin. UPR forfeited the number six singles point.
Against SUNY Geneseo, UC was able to sweep the doubles matches to get the first point. Poggensee-Wei and O'Gara took down Marylyn Santos and Dexuan Yuan 8-0, Witte and Bellinger battled to beat Karli Hollins and Maggie Hale 8-4, and Bure and Wilson were also able to grab a win.
In singles play, the Bearcats took all six points to win 7-0. Cincinnati used wins from Poggensee-Wei, Witte, O'Gara, Bure, Bellinger, and Wille to pick up the sweep. Wilson also defeated Harpreet Aujla in exhibition play.
Cincinnati won two out of the three doubles matches to win the doubles point during their final match against Colgate. Poggensee-Wei and O'Gara were victorious over Alex Petrini and Kelsey Shea 8-1 for their third win of the week. Witte and Bellinger also won their third match of the week when they defeated Jennifer Ho and Kaelin Brittin 8-1. Bure and Wilson battled, but fell in a tough match to Katie Grant and Kirstie Woodbury 8-6.
UC rolled through singles action winning all six matches and also winning an exhibition match. Poggensee-Wei defeated Ho 6-4, 6-2. Witte was able to beat Shea 6-4, 6-1 in the second position. On court No. 3, O'Gara won her third match of the week when she defeated Grant 6-0, 6-2. Bure was able to take down Brittin 6-3, 6-1. Bellinger dominated Woodbury winning 6-1, 6-0 and Wille also was victorious over Hannah Fleckstein 6-2, 6-0. Wilson also won her exhibition match over Lindsey Madnick 6-0.
Cincinnati improves their record to 8-9 on the season.
The Bearcats return home this week when they face rival Xavier on Wednesday, March 26 in a match that has been moved to Western Tennis & Fitness Center. The match start time will also change from 3 p.m. to 1 p.m.
