Volleyball Adds Five to 2013 Roster

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women’s volleyball team announced the signing of five players to the 2013-14 roster. Kristin Conor, Shelby Green, Ciara Hill, Peyton Lang and Amber Rizzio have all signed letters of intent to play for the Bearcats and will join the team for the fall of 2013. All five players have a long volleyball history and come from strong high school and club volleyball backgrounds. They join Breanna Barksdale and Mallory Blauser who signed in the fall.


Kristin Conor

S | 5’8” | Lone Tree, Colo. | Highlands Ranch High School

High School: Four-year letterwinner … Continental League champion (2009) … district champion (2009-2011) … regional champion (2012) … state championship runner-up (2009), finished seventh in state championship (2010) … finished ninth in state championship (2012) … named First Team All-Continental League Setter (2010, 2011) … named All-State honorable mention (2012) … led the state in aces (2010) … second in the state in assists (2010, 2011) … named one of Prep Volleyball’s top sophomores in the nation (2010) ... named Max Preps Athlete of the Week (2012) … selected to participate in the Colorado Coaches Association All-Star game … set the singles-season assists record (2012) … set career assists record (2009-12) … named team MVP (2011, 2012).

Personal: Born March 4, 1995 … daughter of Steve and Julie Conor … has two brothers, Matt and David, and one sister, Allison … plans to major in business.

Coach Alvey on Conor: Kristin will add a competitive edge to our setting position. She is comfortable and confident with her leadership skills and I expect her to come in and show that confidence in her role from day one.


Shelby Green

DS/L | 5’7” | Dripping Springs, Texas | Dripping Springs High School

High School: District champion (2009, 2012) … advanced to the second round of the playoffs (2009, 2010, 2011) … advanced to the third round of the playoffs (2012) … First Team All-District 25-4A (2009-12) … District 25-4A Offensive MVP (2011) … District 25-4A MVP (2012) … TGCA All-State selection (2011-12) … set record for kills in a season (662), kills in a match (32), kills in a career (1,948), aces in a season (109), aces in a match (11) and digs in a career (1,720) … named Academic All-District 25-4A (2010-11).

Personal: Born Dec. 13, 1994 … daughter of Troy and Gaynell Green … has two sisters, Jisele and Madison … plans to major in business.

Coach Alvey on Green: Shelby has been expected to play multiple roles on her high school and club teams. She is an outside hitter, a defensive specialist and a leader. Shelby’s knowledge of the game and overall volleyball IQ will immediately impact the level of play in our gym.



Ciara Hill

OH | 5’10” | Bolingbrook, Ill. | Bolingbrook High School

High School: Four-year letterwinner and starter … advanced to the first round of regionals (2009) … advanced to the second round of regionals (2010-12) … three-time United Township All-Tournament team (2010-12) … Warrior Blast All-Tournament (2012) … SWSC All-Conference team selection (2011) … SWSC Conference Co-MVP (2011) … All-State selection (2012) … team MVP (2012) … helped break school record for wins in a season (21 in 2012).

Personal: Born May 7, 1995 … daughter of Melissa Zglobicki and Charles Hill … has one brother, Michael, and two sisters Trenise and Angelia … plans to major in physical therapy.

Coach Alvey on Hill: Ciara has recently been moved from the middle blocker position to an outside attacker for which she is much better suited. She is a very agile athlete that can get off the ground quickly. We plan to utilize her quickness and arm swing as an outside.



Peyton Lang

OH/DS | 6’0” |Commerce Township, Mich. | Walled Lake Northern High School

High School: Four-year letterwinner … conference champion (2011) … city champion (2012) … two-time All-Conference team selection (2011-12) … Academic All-Region selection (2012) … Academic All-State selection (2012) … four-year honor roll member (2009-12).

Personal: Born May 28, 1995 … daughter of Mike and Jennifer Lang … has one brother Tanner and one sister Madison … her father Mike played basketball at Penn State … her sister Madi plays volleyball for Cincinnati … undecided on a major.

Coach Alvey on Lang: Peyton is another volleyball player that has seen the game from many positions. She will play defensive specialist for us because of her strong mentality for passing. We plan to use her strength as an athlete and knowledge of the game to immediately make us better in the gym.


Amber Rizzio

MH | 6’0” | Loves Park, Ill. | Harlem High School

High School: Three-year letterwinner (2010-12) … NIC 10 Conference First Team member (2012) … varsity team MVP (2012) … four-year NIC 10 Scholar Athlete (2009-12) … also lettered in track and field (2009)

Personal: Born Feb. 20, 1995 … daughter of Drew and Jennifer Rizzio … has one brother, Ryan … her brother Ryan plays football at North Central College ... plans to major in accounting.

Coach Alvey on Rizzio: Amber will bring a physical presence into our gym. She’s young in her volleyball career but has continued to improve exceptionally well this club season. As a staff, we are excited to have her strength and power to train in our system.
